DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication system used to check that an e-mail has been sent by an authenticated person or mail server. An electronic signature is added to the email message’s header using a private cryptographic key. When the email message is received, a public key that is available in the global Domain Name System is used to verify who actually sent it and if its content has been edited in some way. The chief function of DKIM is to prevent the widely spread spam and scam messages, as it makes it impossible to forge an email address. If a message is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for example, but the signature doesn’t match, you will either not get the email at all, or you’ll get it with a warning notice that most likely it’s not legitimate. It depends on email service providers what exactly will happen with an email that fails the signature test. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also supply you with an additional protection layer when you communicate with your business allies, for example, since they can see for themselves that all the email messages that you exchange are authentic and have not been manipulated on their way.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality is pre-activated for all domain names that are hosted in a cloud hosting account on our cloud web hosting platform, so you won’t need to do anything yourself to enable it. The only requirement is that the given domain should be hosted in a website hosting account on our platform using our NS and MX records, so that the e-mail messages will go through our email servers. The private cryptographic key will be generated on the server and the TXT record, which contains the public key, will be published to the global DNS database automatically, so you will not have to do anything manually on your end in order to activate this option. The DKIM email authentication system will enable you to send out credible emails, so if you are sending a newsletter or offers to clients, for instance, your email messages will always reach their target audience, while unauthorized third parties won’t be able to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All obligatory DKIM records will be created automatically by our cloud hosting platform when you add a domain as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so if you choose to order a semi-dedicated plan, you won’t have to configure anything to be able to use the email validation system. The domain must use our name servers so that its DNS resource records can be managed by our company and in case this condition is answered, a private key will be created on our email servers and a public key will be added to the DNS database by a special TXT resource record. All email addresses that you set up using the domain name will be protected by DomainKeys Identified Mail, which will make it impossible for 3rd parties to fake any email address. Both you and your associates or clients can benefit from this feature, since it will ensure a much higher security level for your electronic correspondence.
